Nordby Wine Caves Welcomes Kate Lewis as Project Engineer

Nordby Wine Caves (NWC) is proud to announce the addition of Project Engineer Kate Lewis. Kate will assist NWC President Rick Shone in all aspects of wine cave and underground structure construction, strengthening our delivery of exceptional quality and aesthetics. Her diverse expertise in wine cave design, underground structure design, and geotechnical engineering aligns with our commitment to excellence and innovation in the construction industry.
Kate’s family history is rooted in wine cave and underground structure engineering which led her to begin working as a field geologist in the industry upon completion of a Bachelor of Science in Geology from University of California, Davis. After obtaining a Master of Science in Geology, Structural Geology at California State University, Northridge in 2015, Kate went on to large grading and residential land development work in Southern California.
Her passion for wine cave and related underground work brought Kate back up to Northern California to focus on tunneling projects with a major design engineering consulting firm in 2021. A highly skilled and dedicated engineering geologist, she holds a lifelong appreciation of the magnitude and complexity of underground projects – dimensions that most people never get to experience.
Kate’s robust background in design provides her with a comprehensive understanding of project requirements and challenges. This perspective and her ability to communicate effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, designers, and contractors ensures seamless collaboration and successful outcomes. Kate is a member of the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG), the Society of Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME), and Underground Construction Association (UCA).
